The "associazione culturale stanze al genio" was established in march 2008
in the city of Palermo with a view to developing a new cultural project,
unparalleled so far, aiming at furthering the awareness of as well as the
protection and the accessibility to a collection consisting of several items
ranging from maiolica tiles to old commercial labels, toys, stationery,
nibs, ink-bottles. The 2300 samples of maiolica tiles, being the most
important part of the collection, were produced in the area of Naples and
Sicily between the 17th and the 20th century whereas the other articles
cover a time-period going from 1900 to1960. This important part of our
cultural heritage had been for many years at risk of disappearing and it was
only recently that, thanks to the personal efforts and true passion of some
individuals, its real importance begins to be fully realised. The collection
is now housed within the premises of the "Associazione Culturale STANZE AL
GENIO", a private residence partially converted into a museum and situated
in the historic arabic neighbourhood "La Kalsa", in Palermo, on the Via
Garibaldi, 11. The premises, having been recently restored to highlight the
interesting eighteenth century frescos in the ceiling as well as the
original floor, are located on the main floor of the former "Palazzo Torre"
later "Piraino" a palace built by the family Fernandez di Valdes between the
sixteenth and the seventeenth century and later sold to the families Torre
and Piraino. You can reserve a visit to the museum by calling beforehand the
telephone number +39 340 0971561. The entrance fee costs € 5,00 but students
and visitors over 65 years of age can get a reduction to € 4,00 for the
membership's card entitling to a single access. With a view to
self-financing its activities the museum offers also a chance to buy
postcards, photos, maiolica tiles, and books. An opportunity not only aimed
at items' collectors but also to anyone wishing to purchase an article

Imagine a ride aboard a vintage car, listening to stories of someone who knows the buildings, the personalities who have lived there. And just imagine a ride around Mondello, the sea and the Liberty style villas…

Tours of Palermo’s historical centre and Mondello by vintage car last approximately three hours, starting after 9pm. The route crosses the main streets of the historical centre of the city and the gulf of Mondello. Explanations and stories are recounted by a driver-guide in Italian, Spanish, English or French.
